Paige Freeborn - Keyboards

Paige Freeborn graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance   from the University of Alberta and a Master of Music degree in Piano   Performance from the University of British Columbia, where she was awarded the   prestigious Graduate Fellowship. She has trained as an orchestral conductor at UBC and in Kromeriz, Czech Republic, and she has served as rehearsal conductor for the Kamloops Symphony Orchestra

Ms. Freeborn has performed as a soloist, chamber musician, accompanist and   orchestral pianist in Europe, North America and Asia. In 2009, Ms.   Freeborn enjoyed traveling to Japan with Lions Gate Sinfonia to perform   at the Chiba International Cultural Festival. Ms. Freeborn also has a background in vocal studies, having studied, performed and toured as a classical and jazz vocalist. 

Ms. Freeborn has operated private music teaching studios in Vancouver's Lower Mainland since 1997 and she enjoys teaching a wide range of students. Her students consistantly receive top honors in the Royal Conservatory of Music examination system and at local music festivals, as well as placements in post-secondary music ensembles. She is a member of the BCRMTA (BC Registered Music Teachers Association) and the ISME (UNESCO-founded International Society for Music Educators). She enjoys attending local, national and international conferences and master classes around the world, exploring topics such as pedagogy; community engagement through the arts; and global themes in music education and cultural policy development. 


Ms. Freeborn is a co-founder and co-director of the World Music Program at Brockton School in North Vancouver. This program has been selected twice to represent Canada at the International Society of Music Educator's (ISME) conferences (China, 2010 anbd Greece, 2012). In 2014 the program will embark on a tour of Scotland and England, performing at the Aberdeen International Youth Festival.

In 2009 Ms. Freebrn brainstormed a unique project for Lions Gate Sinfonia, which involved giving piano students at the grades 1-9 RCM levels the opportunity to perform with a professional symphony orchestra. This project culminated in a sold-out concert in 2010 and in 2013 the South Fraser Branch of the BCRMTA launched the project with LGS at the Bell Centre in Surrey. Lions Gate Sinfonia presents another incarnation of this project in the fall of 2013.

In 2004 Ms Freeborn co-founded the World Music Program at Brockton School in North Vancouver. She co-directs the program with her husband, Adrian Dyck. The program has twice been selected to represent Canada at the bi-annual International Society of Music Educator's conferences (China, 2010 and Greece, 2012). The program was recently invited to perform at the renowned Aberdeen International Youth Festival

Ms. Freeborn has served on the board of Lions Gate Sinfonia orchestra since 2008, serving as President from 2008-2012.


In her spare time Ms. Freeborn enjoys cultivating a healthy lifestyle. She is studying to become a meditation teacher and a Vijnana yoga teacher. She enjoys hiking in the mountains of the North Shore, enjoying long walks along West Vancouver's beautiful coastline, and studying systems such as Compassionate Communication. She spends many hours each week volunteering   in her community.
