Marea Chernoff - Oboe
Marea began studying oboe in Vancouver at the age of thirteen. She holds a Bachelor of Music from U.B.C., an Artist Diploma from the Vancouver Academy of Music and a Master of Music degree from Boston University.
As a busy freelance musician in Vancouver, Marea plays principal oboe with Kamloops Symphony and Lions Gate Sinfonia, and has played with the Vancouver Opera Orchestra, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, CBC Vancouver Radio Orchestra, Ballet B.C., Okanagan Symphony and several other groups in the lower mainland and around B.C. She is also a member of the Ad Mare Wind Quintet and Reed Trio.
Marea is on faculty at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, Capilano University, Trinity Western University, Douglas College, the Vancouver Academy of Music and the UBC Summer Music Institute as well as maintaining a home teaching studio. She was the wind and brass adjudicator at the Prince George Music Festival in 2006 and the 2009 Pacific Northwest Music Festival in Terrace.
In her spare time Marea designs and creates
silver jewellery and was published in June 2010 by Lark Books in “30-Minute
Earrings” with one of her designs.
